Tort Reform

The tort reform project looks at the economic efficiency of the legal process in resolving civil disputes.  In this research subjects are placed in the roles of either defendant's or plantiff's lawyer and must resolve a claim for damages to compensate the harm created by a defandant's actions.  Our initial research starts with the supposed harm already occuring and pre-trial negotiations have begun.  The court is modelled as a random draw of damages from a uniform distribution.  Experiments are a valuable compliment to other research techniques because we can vary what subjects know, subjects' incentives, court costs, and rules that govern discovery and fee shifting in repeated controlled enviornments.
